"Movie Costume "

This is one of Inara's many costumes worn during Serenity, and honestly it was so easy to put together that I don't know why I didn't do this earlier! The costume consists of a gold wrap, black obi, black pants, and a black corset top. The pants and top I already owned so the only items I put together were the wrap and obi. The jewelry was made for me by my wonderful and talented friend Beverly.

In the movie commentary, Joss Whedon mentions that this costume was thrown together quickly because there was a problem with Morena's original costume. Since I skimped out on most of the sewing for this costume I decided to fancy up the fabric a bit. I decided to go with a heavy fabric for the obi with a lace print on it. The original fabric had leaves but I couldn't find anything similar. I decided to take advantage on a brocade sale and chose a beautiful gold brocade for the wrap. The edges of the brocade were serged (thanks Christine!) to avoid fraying.

When selecting a location for my photo shoot, I wanted something that had a very "Miranda-esque" feel to it; bright sunlight, large cities, but cold and empty. I choose a spot in downtown Denver that fit the mood I wanted and had the photos taken on a Sunday, as downtown is pretty inactive on a Sunday afternoon.
